GSA, LRA Secure Land in 12 Counties for Construction of Customs Barracks
The Government of Liberia has taken another major step toward strengthening border security and improving revenue collection with the ongoing acquisition of land for the construction of customs barracks across the country.
The General Services Agency (GSA), in collaboration with the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), is securing four acres of land at key border points in 12 of Liberia’s 15 counties. The initiative is part of a nationwide effort to provide modern facilities for customs officers and enhance joint security operations.
According to the GSA, the project aims not only to boost revenue mobilisation but also to create a safer and more conducive working environment for LRA staff and other security personnel stationed at border posts.
Work on the acquisition of this land has been progressing steadily. Nimba County was completed several months ago, marking one of the first sites secured. Most recently, a joint GSA–LRA team finalised land acquisition in Lofa County, completing the process between November 27 and December 1, 2025.
Mr Moses Gaygay, Director of Real Estate; who represented the GSA during the county visits, led the coordination and verification of the designated land areas. His role was instrumental in ensuring smooth collaboration between local authorities, the LRA, and the GSA.
Once completed, the customs barracks are expected to improve border management, strengthen monitoring of cross-border trade, and reinforce the presence of state security in remote areas.
The GSA and LRA are expected to continue work in the remaining counties in early 2026 as the government moves to modernise border infrastructure nationwide.
